ECE Admission 2026: Registration Fees, Eligibility, Top Institutes/Colleges in India

IITs

BTech ECE

• Students must have passed Class 12 from any recognized board with at least 75% marks in subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects.
• Students should be among the top 2,50,000 successful students (including all categories) in B.E./B.Tech paper of JEE Main 2026. Qualifying the JEE Advanced exam is also necessary.

MTech ECE

• Students with a Bachelor’s degree in ECE/Electrical Engineering/Electronics Engineering/Telecommunication Engineering from educational institutions approved by AICTE/ Government are eligible to apply, given they have scored at least 60% marks.
• Students with a B.Tech. Degree from IITs with a CGPA of 8.0 and above can even apply without the GATE score.

PhD in ECE

• Students must have completed post-graduation in ECE or a related discipline with at least 60% marks.
• The admission is based on the score obtained in GATE exam.
• Students with a bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (4-year program) with at least 75 percent marks/7.5 CPI & a valid GATE score can also apply.

NITs

BTech ECE

• Students must have passed Class 12 from any recognized board with a minimum of 75% in Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry subjects.
• There is no particular age limit for admission. 

MTech ECE

• Students must have passed Bachelor's degree with at least 60% marks. students should secure 6.5 CGPA or 60% for GEN-EWS, whereas 6 CGPA or 55% in case of PwD students.
• They must have a valid GATE score of the year 2024 / 2025 / 2026.

PhD in ECE

• Students must have got 60% marks in MTech in ECE or a related field.
• Students passed B.Tech (with valid GATE) in ECE with at least 75% marks under GEN/ OBC-NCL/ GEN-EWS category or 70% under SC/ ST/ PwD category are also eligible.

Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering

Students must have passed Class 10 or its equivalent with at least 40 to 50% marks each in Science and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. They must also have studied English as one of the major subjects.

BTech ECE

• Students must have passed Class 12 in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects with at least 50 to 60% marks. A relaxation of 5% marks is given to reserved category students.
• He/She must be a citizen of India.
• Students with a 3-year diploma in Engineering recognized by AICTE or a state board of technical education with at least 50 to 55% marks can also apply via lateral entry.

MTech ECE

Students must hold a B.E./BTech ECE degree or a related degree with at least 55 to 60% marks in graduation.

PhD in ECE

Students must hold a master’s degree in ECE or a related field with at least 55% marks and clear relevant entrance tests.

BTech ECE

• Students must have passed Class 12 in the Science stream with at least 45 to 60% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects.
• Several colleges also offer merit-based admissions, considering the Class 12 board exam marks. In this case, students have to appear for the GD or PI rounds as well after result declaration.

MTech ECE

• Students must have scored 55 to 60% marks in qualifying degree and appear for the online entrance test conducted at the national/state/college level.

PhD in ECE

Students must hold a master’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering or a related field with at least 60% marks and clear relevant entrance tests.

Completion of Class 10 (or equivalent) with 50% marks

Some institutions might prefer students with PCM background in Class 12.

Prepare for relevant ECE entrance exams. Several private colleges also give admission to students based on Class 12 board exam scores.

JEE Main Syllabus

The JEE Main syllabus revolves around three core subjects from Class 11 and Class 12: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each subject will have two sections, sections A and B.

Section A will have multiple-choice questions also known as MCQs and Section B will contain numerical value questions. In Section B, students have to attempt any five questions out of 10, and there is no negative marking for Section B.

MHT CET Syllabus

MHT CET exam is of 300 marks which consists of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology of 100 marks each. It gives 20% weightage to the syllabus of Class 11 whereas 80% weightage to Class 12th syllabus. Therefore, its syllabus is slightly different from JEE Main with respect to the weightage of both exams. 

GATE Syllabus

The syllabus for GATE varies across various disciplines and topics such as Verbal Ability and Numerical Ability are the common topics for all papers. Moreover, the syllabus for various specialisations is of graduation-level and students ability to solve reasoning and numerical questions are also tested through this examination.

KEAM Syllabus

The entrance examination consists of subjects such as Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of Class 11 and 12 level. KEAM question paper carries a total of 120 objective-type questions.

KCET Syllabus

KCET examination consists of subjects such as Biology, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. students have to also prepare for Biology in order to appear for this examination
