Tip 1. Do Not Ignore NCERT Books

The NCERT books are written by some of India's brightest minds, and they are precise and concise. Your preparation should begin with the NCERT books. Read these books carefully and complete all of the back exercises. Try the 'example problems' as well for more practice with objective questions. Keep in mind that reading and comprehending the NCERT books are not the same thing.

Tip 2. Do Your Best to Prepare for Board Exams

Though your Class XII marks are no longer required for JEE Main & Advanced rank determination as of last year, it is still critical that you perform well in the board exams. You must give your all to the Board. Because both the Board and the JEE Mains are administered by the CBSE, good preparation for the Board is beneficial for preparing for the JEE Mains. Unlike the JEE Mains, the Board Exam contains subjective questions, so get in the habit of answering them.

Tip 3. Which is more important: How long you studied or how much you studied?

How long you study or how much you studied - both of these factors are equally important. It all depends on you. If you feel you need to invest more time on a topic than increase your study time. However, if you waste your time in procrastination, then how long you study will not matter. Everything comes down to effective study. Utilise the time you study to prepare diligently without any distractions and with complete concentration.

Tip 4. Make a Weekly Plan

Don't plan for a day because it might not be completed due to an unavoidable event on that day (you might be sick). If you plan for a week, you have other days to make up for it. Make a reasonable plan for JEE Advanced 2026 that you can complete by the end of the week. If the plan is feasible, you must not postpone it to the following week.

Tip 5. Learn from Your Test Mistakes

Many tests are available, both offline and online. It is critical to develop the habit of taking tests in the same format regularly. What is more important is that you learn from your mistakes in the JEE Main and JEE Advanced Mock Tests. If you can correct those errors after each test, your performance will gradually improve all the way through. This is the only way to bridge the gap between preparation and performance while also improving exam temperament.

Tip 6. Do Not Store Unnecessary Books

Start with the NCERTs to get hold of the concepts and basics, and collect books that are good in the following categories:

  1. have a simple language and cover JEE Advanced syllabus
  2. have ample amount of question banks
  3. books that are topper recommended and experts trust
  4. books that work for you even if not recommended by experts and toppers

Tip 7. Complete the Syllabus

The syllabus of JEE Advanced is vast and can only be completed if you start your preparation as early as possible. It is very important to complete the syllabus as all topics in JEE Advanced are important. This is because, there are questions in the exam that carry concepts application from various chapters of JEE Advanced syllabus. Therefore, to solve one question, candidates must have a knowledge of various topics. Hence it is important to complete the entire syllabus of JEE Advanced with time for revision before the exam.

Tip 8. Create a Revision Strategy

You need to keep revising what you have studied. The concepts and basics of JEE Advanced must be on the tip of your tongue so that you are able to solve the questions in the exam with speed and accuracy. Also, form a strategy to revise.

  • Do not invest equal amount of time in revising all the topics. 
  • Revise the topics that you think you need more attention to regularly.
  • Make notes while revising to retain the concepts in your memory.
  • Check your performance after each mock exam and analyse what mistakes and patterns you are repeating and work on them.

How to Manage Time in JEE Advanced Exam?

Effective time management during the JEE Advanced exam helps you attend all sections and maximise your scoring. Here are some time management tips for JEE Advanced:

Practice Time Management: Solve mock tests in the given time before you take your exam. It will give you a feel of the pressure and can help you design some strategy that works for you.

Time distribution: Familiarise yourself with the exam structure and the number of questions in each section. Know which sections carry more marks or are more time-consuming. First, divide the total time available for the exam by the number of sections to come up with a rough estimate of the time that can be given to each section. For example, if you have 3 hours to answer 3 sections, then about 1 hour per section should be a good estimate.

Prioritise the sections: Start with the sections you are most confident about. An initial feel-good will keep you moving with great momentum and help in reducing anxiety.

Read Instructions Carefully: Spend a few minutes at the beginning of your test reading through all the instructions word for word. Note the scheme of marking, negative marking if any, and particular instructions about each section.

Time Management within Sections:

  • Break Each Section: Just have a quick look at the section to get an idea of how many questions there are and their relative difficulty.
  • Plan Your Approach: Determine the time you would spend on each question. Some questions may take more time than others; therefore, always be flexible.
  • Avoid Hard Questions: If you come across one that does not look easy then do so by moving to other easy ones. Always mark such a question for review to get back to it in case there is time left.

Use Your Strengths: Attempt questions you are most confident about first; this not only gets you in the right mindset but also saves time for the difficult ones later.

Stay Calm and Focused: If you get the feeling that you are running out of time, don't panic. Stay focused on the question at hand and manage the remaining time to the best of your abilities.

If you follow the above tips and, in the course of your preparation, you practice the time management strategy, you will then be able to manage the time in the JEE Advanced test and thus be better set at doing well in it.

No, your candidature will be rejected as you need to have minimum of 75% in class 12 to be eligible for admisison to the IITs, NIT, IIITs and GFTIs via the JoSAA counselling. Even if you pass JEE Advanced and JEE Main, of you do not have 75% minimum marks in class 12 boards you will no get admission
