Factors to Select Right NEET Preparation Books

Aspirants should keep in mind the following factors while selecting the best books for NEET preparation 2025:

  • Advice from teachers or seniors – While there are a plethora of NEET books 2025 available in the market, one must select those which will best suit them. For this, they should consult their teachers or mentors, or seniors who know their preparation level or ability to grasp the content or language of a particular book. A customised suggestion would help them choose better rather than just hoarding NEET 2025 books and being unable to acquire knowledge from those. It often happens that one student finds a book helpful but another student may not be able to find it suitable since each aspirant's ability to grasp and level of understanding vary. Hence, it is best to choose books for NEET preparation as per one's own requirements and ability.

  • Content of books – Students must refer to the reviews of the best books for NEET preparation to know how easy it would be to read and understand those books. The factors in the content that should be checked include the quality of language and ease of understanding or comprehension, and coverage of topics and chapters from the NEET syllabus, among others.

  • Edition – Candidates should always refer to the latest edition of NEET 2025 books. Older editions may contain outdated content, which would not aid their preparation properly.

  • Practice Materials – While selecting the best books for NEET 2025, students should also check whether along with chapter-wise theoretical content, the books also have sufficient practice questions along with their answer keys and solutions, or NEET previous years’ solved question papers.

How to Prepare for NEET 2026

There are multiple facets to preparing for NEET 2026. Some of the key methods or strategies that are advised by the experts and toppers for NEET are as follows:
  • Know the exam pattern and syllabus thoroughly: First and foremost, candidates should be familiar with the exam pattern and structure of NEET. Although the NEET 2026 pattern and syllabus have not been officially announced by  NTA, it is expected that it will remain the same as last year. Hence, before starting the preparation, one must check the exam pattern and structure of NEET. The syllabus of NEET is the same as that of the Class 11 and Class 12 syllabi. Hence, it would not be very difficult to start with the NEET preparation.
  • Select the right NEET preparation books: The next important step is to select the best books for NEET 2026 preparation. To begin with, the NCERT books for NEET 2026 and the school textbooks will suffice. After the completion of the syllabus, students can level up and refer to other NEET books and preparation materials listed above. While the concepts will be the same, books specially designed for NEET preparation would highlight the important chapters and topics of NEET along with practice questions at the end of each chapter. Along with the books, students can also refer to study materials or notes available in the market or various social media platforms or distributed by coaching institutes.
  • Solve previous years' NEET question papers and mock tests: Practice is key for a highly competitive exam like NEET. Hence, after the completion of the syllabus, students should start practising the questions. The best way to do so is by solving previous years' NEET question papers and full-length mock tests. This helps in getting exposure to various types of questions and topics. After completing the test, it is equally important to get it thoroughly analysed by experts and act on the feedback.
  • Recognise strong and weak areas: After regular practice, it would be easy to identify the strong and weak areas. While it is easy to deal with the strong areas through regular revision and practice, aspirants should make an extra effort to prepare for the weak areas. They need to find out the root cause of the weakness and then work on ways to remove those. For example, if there is a lack of conceptual clarity, they should spend more time on the concept-building method, followed by practice. This can be done by referring to the books and notes, watching tutorial videos, or through expert sessions at coaching institutes. Students should also refer to the past years' question paper solutions to understand the approach to solving a question. Chapter-wise weightage of NEET questions should also be referred to decide which of the topics you may leave out for NEET 2026.
  • Decide NEET exam-taking strategy: It may seem early, but one must prepare for the exam day plan and strategy well in advance. The NEET exam day strategy can be developed after regular practice. In the exam-taking strategy, candidates will have to finalise the order of attempting the sections, time management and revision. This will help them have a proper direction to follow on the exam day to experience a hassle-free exam-taking experience.
