JEE Main syllabus can be categorized as medium in difficulty level. The topics covered in JEE Mains syllabus are similar to CBSE class 11 and 12 syllabus. Students can prepare for JEE Mains exam using their NCERT textbooks to get a good score. Candidates aiming top colleges are however advised to refer additional books to score high marks in JEE Mains.
The high weightage topics from class 11 and 12 Physics as per previous year paper analysis are Current Electricity Waves AC, Magnetism, Laws of Motion Work, Power and Energy. In Chemistry the high weightage topics are s and p block elements, Coordination compounds, Thermodynamics Gaseous state, Chemical bonding, Atomic structure, Polymers, Environmental Chemistry Organic Chemistry. In Mathematics, the high weightage topics are Sequence and Series Vectors and 3D, Integral and Differential Calculus, Definite and Indefinite Integral.

The syllabus of JEE Mains is not same as JEE Advanced. Candidates must note that JEE Mains and Advanced are two different exam meant for different purposes. JEE Main is conducted for admission to NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs while JEE Advanced is conducted for admission to IITs. In terms of syllabus, although both JEE Mains and Advanced have class 11 and 12 topics of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, there are some topics which are a part of Mains syllabus but not in Advanced. JEE Mains syllabus can be completed in 6 months considering that almost every topic of JEE syllabus is similar to class 11 and 12 syllabus. The frequency of taking JEE Main mock test would vary based on the number of days left for the test. When there are three to four months left for the exam, students should take mock tests twice a week and dedicate the rest of the days for analysis and preparation. In the last month before JEE Main the frequency of taking mock tests should be increased. Candidates should take a full-length mock test every alternate day until at least 4-5 days before the exam. After taking mock tests students should analyze the results to improve their performance.
Numerical value questions in JEE Main are the questions for which the answer will be a numerical value. In every subject, there will be 5 numerical value type questions and students need to attempt all 5 questions. In total, students will need to answer only 75 questions. For numerical value type questions, the answer should be rounded off to the nearest integer.

As per the current JEE Main pattern, the Paper 1 exam have a total of 75 questions, 25 each from Physics Chemistry and Mathematics. Out of 25 questions, 20 are multiple choice questions and 5 are questions with numerical value answers. Students need to answer all 5 numerical value type questions. Also, all 20 multiple-choice questions are compulsory and no choice is provided in them. Students need to complete all the 75 questions in 3 hours. The total marks of JEE Main exam is 300.
As per the sequence of subject/section in JEE Main, Mathematics is the first section followed by Physics and Chemistry. However, students have the option of appearing questions from any section based on their preference. During the actual exam, students are provided the instructions on the computer screen to navigate between one section to other.
